Ahmed Gasim Fadul Hospital for Cardiac Surgery & Renal Transplant Center
Ahmed Gasim Fadul Hospital, (AGH) a public access hospital in Khartoum that has been performing open heart surgery since 1998, with a current capacity of more than 20 open heart surgeries per month.
The hospital lacks specialized equipment to enable the safe performance of mitral valve repair that has the advantage (over mitral valve replacement) of not requiring the patient to need anticoagulation and longer survival especially for patients with degenerative mitral valve disease
Thanks to your generous donations, SAMA was able to provide the mitral valve retractor (Genesee BioMedical, Denver, CO) to Ahmed Gasim Fadul Hospital in August 2017 that was immediately put to use.

Detroit Medical Center donates Echocardiography Machine to Shaab Teaching Hospital
Shaab Teaching Hospital is a large tertiary referral center for Cardiac Care and is the main service provider for poor patients in Sudan who need cardiac care. An Echocardiography machine performs ultrasound examinations of the heart to diagnose heart disease; and is considered the cornerstone of modern cardiology practice. Shaab Teaching Hospital currently has 2 Echocardiography machines in good condition. As a result, the hospital has a long waiting list of patients awaiting this basic test.
In September 2014, Detroit Medical Center (DMC) donated an echocardiography machine (Phillips HP 5500) to the Sudanese American Medical Association.
The machine was independently evaluated by an ultrasound expert who reported to SAMA that the Echocardiography machine was in good condition. We kept this machine in SAMA storage, and with the newly acquired OFAC General License, are able ship it to Shaab Teaching Hospital

Dr. Salah Mohamed Ibrahim, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Center – Shaab Teaching Hospital stated:
Our institution is the only tertiary referral hospital which has an Accident and Emergency (for cardiac patients) and we have a waiting list for echo from 3 to 4 months.
The hospital performs an average 60-70 studies per day and needs a similar number in the Accident and Emergency Department.
The machine is currently in Shaab Hospital Accident and Emergency performing 20 to 30 studies per day/7 days a week.
