Midwifery Training

In 2016 SAMA establishes a collaboration with jhiego (an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University) to introduce the Helping Mothers Survive- Bleeding After Birth (HMS-BAB) training module in Sudan.

SAMA delivered jhpiego’s HMS-BAB module, the first internationally certified midwifery training at the University of Gezira. Ten Laerdal birth simulators were sent to Sudan for the workshop that was delivered by 5 HMS-BAB master trainers.

A three days workshop was conducted at University of Gezira where 25 participants were certified by jhpiego faculty as “Master Trainers”, this creates a local faculty of HMS-BAB master trainers in Sudan.

Training at Wad Medani Teaching Hospital and four rural hospitals (Hasaheesa, Almangil, Umalgurra, and Rufaa) was conducted for 163 health providers. 34 providers were certified by jhpiego as “Clinical Mentors”. Further, 106 village midwives were trained on various skills and were awarded certificates of attendance.
